Folks, we have another case of an employer in the structural engineering profession behaving very badly.  This employer is so stupid they do not even know how to hire employees using their own job ads.  This is due to the fact that employers like these are doing everything they can not to fill their positions.  In this case, some of the positions may be fraudulent.  One such company that has been caught doing this is Zapata, Inc., with locations in Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Honolulu, HI.

Yes, folks, Zapata Incorporated is an engineering and construction firm that works with the US Department of Defense and some private clients like Duke Energy.  According to their website, Zapata, Inc., claimed the value Trust Integrity, and Quality.  But when you read this post, you will discover Zapata’s Corporate Values are like a mirage in a desert.  We will show you why the Structural Stupidists feel Zapata is a fraudulent company.

This Candidate interviewed for the Senior Structural Engineer that Zapata posted on the company website.  This Candidate has 20+ years of structural engineering experience and is licensed as a Structural Engineer in California.  This person has a great history of engineering projects all over the West Coast.  When this Candidate saw the Structural Engineer – PE position, the Candidate applied for the position.  We have posted it for use in this post, folks.





 

So the Candidate got this email from Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley.


 

This sounds like a great initial email, folks.  The Candidate was really happy to be considered to be interviewed for this position at Zapata, Inc.

Before we go on, let us post Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley’s LinkedIn profile for all to see.






 


 This was the first interview that was scheduled by Zapata.  Then the firm scheduled a second interview.

 


After the second interview occurred, guess what happens next?  Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley decided to pull a bait and switch.  Instead of offering the full time position he advertised, Jeremy Hartley of Zapata pulled this scam on the Candidate, as shown in the email below.

That’s right, folks.  Jeremy Hartley decided to pull a bait-and-switch by changing the position from full-time Structural Engineer PE to a contract opportunity.  So did Zapata Inc. really have the position they claimed?  We think not, or else this would have been resolved favorably.

So the Candidate decided to ask some questions about the Consultant opportunity.

Instead of answering the questions about the consulting position, guess what Jeremy Hartley does?  Nothing!  Folks, Jeremy Hartley of Zapata is literally pimpin’ candidates for Zapata.

Jeremy Hartley refused to answer the questions the Candidate had.  Check out his response below.

Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley asked whether this employee was incorporated as a private firm.  Folks, Jeremy Hartley is so dumb with that question he lacks the reading comprehension when it comes to reading two page resumes.  Why does a California based engineer need to incorporate in North Carolina when the Candidate does no work there?  His response gets three Jokers for being this stupid.


Just imagine how he is at reading company policy requirements with many times more pages.  It begs the question:

 

Yes, folks, Jeremy Hartley would suck at it.  If Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley was a philosopher, it would be Nostradumbass!

 

Why would Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley perform this bait and switch, folks?  What happened to the Structural Engineer – PE position Jeremy Hartley was recruiting?  This makes people wonder whether Zapata, Inc., really has the staff to perform structural engineering services adequately or whether they are using structural engineers as prostitutes with Zapata, Inc., as the john or pimp.

Of course, Jeremy Hartley and the Zapata Inc staff may have lots of excuses.  The employees were suffering from mental-pause or rolling mental blackouts.  They may have been paid a visit by the Men In Black and had their memories erased.  Or they were celebrating White Stupidity Month.


Maybe Jeremy Hartley was trying to see who would get drugged on weed.


You know, if Zapata, Inc., employees had rapper names, they would be LL Fool J, Foolio or P-Didiot!

Folks, the Structural Engineer – PE positions might as well be on Talos IV because they are a complete work of fiction.  In that case, Zapata, Inc. may not really an engineering/construction company.

 

CHECK OUT HOW JEREMY HARTLEY OF ZAPATA, INC, IS NOT THE COMPAMY MAN HE CLAIMS TO BE

Yes, folks, we have evidence that Jeremy Hartley is not the Zapata company man he claims to be.  Let’s compare the things on their website to the actions of Jeremy Hartley.

  • Our employees will be proud to work at ZAPATA. We will create opportunities to excel professionally and personally, and reward success.

Tell us, folks, does Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley create opportunities for people to excel professionally when they are busy baiting and switching candidates who want to work there?  Of course not!  Jeremy Hartley fails this spectacularly.

Ethics: Uncompromising integrity, honesty, and fairness are at the heart of our company.

Does Zapata Inc. value integrity, honesty and fairness?  Based on Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley ‘sanctions, this is not true at all.  It was Jeremy Zapata who interviewed the Candidate for the Structural Engineer PE position and then switched that position to a Consultant position.  Where is the fairness in that when Zapata wants to not give people benefits?  Short answer:  it doesn’t.

Fair Return: We earn a return that fairly rewards the value we deliver.

Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley, where is the fair return when you interview someone for the Structural Engineer – PE position with benefits and then switch it to a Consultant position with no benefits?  Can you say Zapata participates in fraud?

Mutual Respect: We work by our Code of Ethics which encourages teamwork, sincerity, and support; and we value an inclusive culture based on diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and experience.

Zapata, Inc., has no ethics whatsoever.  If they truly valued an inclusive culture based on diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and experience, they would truly be resolving it by hiring that Candidate for the position of Structural Engineer – PE that they advertised.  But if you are Jeremy Hartley, you screw it up so badly so you can justify your future work load.  When you look at the LinkedIn list of employees for the company, they only have one Senior Structural Engineer who is in her early 30s and lots of EITs.  Zapata, Inc., does not value inclusivity, they value the egos of their employees instead.

  • Communicate early, honestly, and completely with all who have a direct interest in the subject. Listen to each other’s point of view.
  • Earn trust by accepting and honoring agreements, keeping promises, and discussing needed changes before acting.

Does Zapata, Inc., honor agreements?  Based on the actions of Jeremy Hartley, Zapata, Inc., does not.  Will this earn trust for Zapata, Inc.?  Of course not!

CHECKOUT THE OTHER PROBLEMS AT ZAPATA, INC.

There are also other issues that Zapata, Inc., may have as well.  Why would they use a Consultant instead of a bonafide employee?  We believe this is an arrangement Zapata, Inc., uses where Zapata, Inc., hires and fires their senior staff!  After the senior staff works a few months, they are laid off.  And it makes people wonder whether Zapata uses these arrangements by torturing the senior staff with bogus Performance Improvement Plans and firing the senior staff later.

Zapata, Inc., may also be in big trouble by misclassifying their employees.  When Zapata, Inc. hires a Consultant, they get to not pay benefits to the Consultants like medical, dental, unemployment taxes, and the like.  When it comes to paying their Consultants on time, that cannot happen with this arrangement.  Did you notice how Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley refused to answer questions about the Consultancy he was offering?  This means the job was bogus.

Also, folks, Zapata, Inc., is ripping off the states where they have offices.  This means the states of North Carolina, Georgia and Hawaii may not be getting all the payroll taxes they need to fund the government.  It is really ironic how Zapata gets work from the government and does not provide the money to fund the government agencies they get work from – like the Department of Defense.

Zapata Inc may get into some serious trouble for tax evasion due to employee misclassification.  When employees are misclassified, the states get less revenue from the payroll taxes.  This means roads don’t get fixed, fewer people can get unemployment especially during a pandemic, you get the idea.  There are also major penalties for misclassifying workers like big fines, back taxes and even jail time.  For Zapata, Inc., they may not be allowed to be on federal contracts again, you know, the ones that are the firm’s bread and butter.

That is not the only issue facing Zapata, Inc.  Zapata may actually be breaking their contracts.  In many of these contracts, it is required that full time employees be hired to work on federal projects and be paid benefits.  Zapata treats their Candidates like Taco Bell fast food workers.  Hey Jeremy Hartley, you’re hiring structural engineers to do work on US DOD projects, not asking them to make tacos and then leave when they are done.  When firms hire part-time employees, they are in breach of that contract.  The Structural Stupidists highlighted this issue years ago with WillDan & Shums Coda Associates.  In both instances, those employees were fired and those firms lost some major plan review contracts as a result.

To the people partnering with Zapata, Inc., you may be getting screwed or even banned from future federal work because of their unethical behavior.

SOLUTIONS TO THE ZAPATA EMPLOYEE’S BAD BEHAVIOR

Many people are asking what they can do about this asshole known as Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley.  We say the entire company must be penalized and designated as a psychological terrorist organization due to the fact they enjoy torturing the candidates.  We at Structural Stupidists have forwarded this complaint with the State of North Carolina.  They are investigating Zapata Inc. for misclassifying their employees.  We have plenty of ideas on what people can do about Zapata, Inc., Human Resources Generalist II Jeremy Hartley and Zapata Inc.

Zapata needs to publicly display signs outside their offices that they perform fake job interviews.  Fake jobs is fraud.  Make sure the company logo and Jeremy Hartley’s picture is on the signs.

Zapata needs to pay much higher taxes into the unemployment system for every fake job interview they do.  Since these people cannot have jobs to go to, then Zapata should pay lots of money into this fund.  We suggest 100 times the normal amount.

Zapata needs to pay higher business and property taxes because city, county, and state governments will need to pay for services for poor people they create.  It should be an amount about 10 times their normal tax rate.

Zapata needs to pay off the student loans of the people they did fake interviews on.  College students will have to pay this on top of their higher education costs compliments of their bad behaving Zapata, Inc., employee parents.

People can go to the schools where Jeremy Hartley’s children attend and show off Jeremy’s bad behavior to the teachers.  Teachers want to know why the Hartley kids are misbehaving and what better way to do that than to show off Jeremy Hartley’s emails to candidates he screws over.

People who want to recruit students away from UNC Charlotte can use Jeremy Hartley as a reference.  He is an idiot and an unethical alumnus who breaks the law and makes UNC Charlotte look bad by just breathing.

Since Jeremy Hartley does not believe in hiring the most qualified people, then people giving services to the Zapata employees need to be subjected to using lesser qualified professionals to do their work at home.  Businesses can say when they deliver the bad services that Zapata does this all the time.
